US Approves Major New Arms Sales Totaling $15.67 Billion for Israel and Saudi Arabia Defense Upgrades

American arms manufacturers are set to benefit from nearly $16 billion in approved military sales to Middle Eastern allies, with the State Department authorizing $6.67 billion for Israel and $9 billion for Saudi Arabia in separate but coordinated announcements made Friday evening. These substantial defense packages underscore the Trump administration’s commitment to maintaining military superiority for regional partners.

The Israeli allocation spans four distinct procurement categories, headlined by a major helicopter acquisition program. Thirty Apache attack helicopters, valued at $3.8 billion and equipped with advanced weaponry and targeting systems, will significantly enhance Israel’s ability to conduct precision strikes and defend against various threats. This represents the single largest component of the Israeli package.

Ground mobility receives substantial investment through the purchase of 3,250 light tactical vehicles worth $1.98 billion. These vehicles will enable the Israel Defense Forces to rapidly move personnel and critical supplies across varied terrain, extending communication lines and improving operational flexibility in both peacetime and conflict scenarios.

Saudi Arabia’s entire $9 billion allocation focuses on bolstering the kingdom’s air defense infrastructure through acquisition of 730 Patriot missiles and supporting equipment. The State Department emphasized that this capability enhancement will protect not only Saudi forces but also American military personnel and coalition partners operating in the region, while improving the integrated defense network across the Gulf.

Democratic lawmakers have raised procedural concerns about the approval process. Representative Gregory Meeks accused the administration of circumventing traditional congressional consultation mechanisms and rushing announcements without adequate legislative engagement on Gaza policy and broader U.S.-Israel relations. The sales were announced as the fragile Gaza ceasefire continues to hold despite implementation challenges ahead.
