Amid an increase in Russian drone incursions, Moldova and Romania are stepping up their defense collaboration with Ukraine, focusing on the development of domestic drones to tackle aerial threats. On August 27, at least five Russian drones breached Moldovan airspace during the country’s National Day celebrations. The event was marked by the presence of Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Romanian President Nicusor Dan.
President Sandu condemned the drone incursions as a tactic to intimidate Moldova, asserting that Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine is having a growing impact on its neighboring countries. She emphasized the need for stronger regional cooperation to address these security challenges and committed to increasing investment in defense capabilities alongside Moldova’s partners.
