Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties as they seek to enhance collaboration in various sectors including energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have focused on potential joint ventures in energy, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. Additionally, both countries are keen on increasing the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market while also boosting Saudi investments in Serbia.
A significant step toward facilitating official exchanges was made when Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric met in Belgrade to sign an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This move is expected to streamline diplomatic interactions and foster closer relations between the two nations.
The trade relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen remarkable growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, a dramatic increase from 2012 levels. In the first half of 2026 alone, trade surged to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This trend underscores the dynamic economic engagement between the two countries.
Looking ahead, upcoming events such as the EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to offer further avenues for investment, business collaboration, and the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has already committed to participating in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic progress, innovation, cultural heritage, and investment prospects. Meanwhile, Serbia is set to make a significant presence at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with more than 50 companies expected to participate.
