This case marks the first recorded attempt by a Russia-linked actor to target a US citizen on the soil of another NATO country. The intended target, as described by Polish officials, is a US citizen of Ukrainian descent who was perceived as a threat by the Russian government.
In connection with the plot, a suspect believed to have been recruited by Russian intelligence services was apprehended in Poland on August 7. The individual is currently in custody for a three-month period as investigations continue. This operation was carried out in collaboration with US intelligence services, as stated by Poland’s minister responsible for overseeing intelligence agencies.
