Petrol prices in Spain have surged for the 11th week in a row, with over 150 service stations in Aragón now charging more than €2 per litre. This steady climb in prices reflects broader trends affecting the national average, which hit €1.866 per litre on September 17, marking a 2.88% increase in just a week. Diesel prices also saw an uptick, reaching €1.834 per litre following a short-lived dip.
The escalating fuel costs are largely attributed to rising global oil prices, exacerbated by disruptions in energy supplies from the Middle East. These issues have placed additional strain on crude oil markets, impacting countries like Spain that are heavily dependent on imported crude.
The situation could further strain Spanish motorists as the government’s temporary fuel discount is set to expire on September 30. This measure currently offers a reduction of 5 cents per litre for petrol and 20 cents for diesel. Industry analysts predict that the end of this discount could see average diesel prices exceeding €2 per litre, with petrol prices potentially nearing that threshold.
